We Did Our First Market (and Survived!) ✨

I wanted to do a little recap of my first ever art market. When I first signed up, I honestly didn’t think I’d be doing any markets this year; it’s only our first year in business! But I was so excited to get accepted into a few, and earlier this month, we finally attended our very first one.

This was huge for me, not only because Here Till Sunday products were finally meeting customers face-to-face, but because I’d dreamt of doing this for almost nine years.

Long (but short) story: back in my first year of college, I attended a holiday market on the top floor of Waterstones Bookstore in Nottingham, UK. I was so enamoured by it all, seeing artists sell their work and share their craft and ever since then, I knew I wanted to open my own art shop. What a full-circle moment.

Some of the fun experiences I had at the market:

1. Artwork & sticker for her son

My very first art market customer was a lady who thought our “Have Faith In Your Self” print would be perfect for her son. It reads: “Have faith in what the world does not see in you yet.”

Externally, I smiled and thanked her,
internally, I wanted to hug her. She was so thoughtful, and I hope her son finds comfort and encouragement in that print.

2. Special shoutout to Sinatra

I told my partner about the market two months in advance, and he took time off work to help me. He handled everything so I could focus on finishing the artwork and final market prep. UGH! Get yourself a Taurus partner. He also took a ton of photos for documentation, My MVP.

3. Shoutout to my sister & friends

Huge shoutout to Alia, who was available 24/7 to talk me through every little decision, and to my friends who scheduled calls to help me figure out things like “What color gridwall should I buy?” or “How do I display the stickers?” You all kept me sane!

4. I called my parents first thing

As some of you know, my parents live back home in Indonesia. I called them first thing in the morning to share what was happening, and I teared up a little when my mom said (translated): “Oh my God, this is so exciting!” 🥹

5. The day was so pretty!

The weather couldn’t have been better, sunny with that perfect fall breeze that makes walking around the market feel extra cozy.

6. Our friends came through…

Our friends stopped by to say hello, some even drove 40 minutes to get there. I’m so grateful they took time out of their weekend to support our first market.

Other friends sent messages before and during the event to wish me luck. Thank you!!! You know who you are, I wouldn’t be here without the people who surround and support me.

7. A gigantic burrito to end the day

On the way home, we stopped by our favorite Mexican restaurant, got one giant burrito to share, and then took a five-hour nap. We woke up, got ready for bed, and went right back to sleep. 😂

Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by our booth — it truly meant the world to me. It was so special connecting with people who enjoy my art. I hope the trinkets that went home with you bring little moments of joy, just as they do for me.
